Unix Timestamp Converter
Convert between Unix epoch timestamps and human-readable dates, both ways.
How to use the Unix Timestamp Converter
Translate between Unix epoch numbers and human-readable dates in both directions. A live clock shows the current timestamp, and you can convert an epoch to UTC + local time, or type a date to get its timestamp back.
- 01Watch the now clock at the top for the current epoch in seconds and milliseconds.
- 02In epoch → date, paste a timestamp — the unit auto-detects (13 digits = milliseconds, fewer = seconds), or force it with the toggle.
- 03In date → epoch, type a date like
2025-01-01 12:00:00to get the matching seconds and milliseconds.
tips
- —JavaScript, Java and most modern APIs use milliseconds; classic Unix tools and PHP use seconds.
- —Older 32-bit systems overflow on 19 January 2038 — this tool uses a 64-bit range and is unaffected.
- —Negative timestamps represent dates before 1 January 1970 (the Unix epoch).
frequently asked
What is a Unix timestamp?+
A Unix timestamp (also called epoch time) is the number of seconds that have elapsed since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970 (the Unix epoch), excluding leap seconds. It is the standard way to represent a point in time across systems and languages.
Seconds or milliseconds?+
Classic Unix timestamps are in seconds. JavaScript, Java, and many modern APIs use milliseconds. This tool auto-detects based on the number of digits, and you can force the unit with the toggle. As a rule of thumb, a 10-digit value is seconds and a 13-digit value is milliseconds.
What is the Year 2038 problem?+
Older systems store the timestamp as a 32-bit signed integer, which overflows on 19 January 2038 (2,147,483,647 seconds after the epoch). Modern 64-bit systems are unaffected. This tool handles the full 64-bit range.
Is this tool free?+
Yes. All conversion happens in your browser using the native Date engine — nothing is uploaded.
